While still living in NY last fall, I lost a cat to a bladder blockage. I never had a cat that had that, so I didn't know that was what was wrong.. Tiger passed away on the way to the vets. Needless to say I was very upset. I decided that I would not have any more cats due to the fact that I already had Jalapeno and DeNiro. Being the animal lover that I am, I couldn't resist a few days later going to the Ontario County Humane Society in Canandaigua. Looking around I just couldn't make up my mind... there were so many choices. One of the young ladies came up to me and said they had some more in another room. Going back there, I saw some young kittens and one gray Persian that caught my eye. Petting the Persian I overheard the young lady talking to another person about a certain kitten that was the runt of the litter and they didn't expect it to live it was so small. I went and took a look and saw a mom cat with all these kittens. Taking a closer look, I spotted the kitten in question. I asked the young lady how old the kittens were (8 weeks old). The runt was half the size of its siblings. Asking to hold the runt, I looked at the girl and told her I would take it and that it would live!!! He is all black with white on his face, belly and four paws that have white fronts. Figaro as I named him, was so small he fit in the pocket of my jacket with room to spare. In fact, Figaro became my traveling partner and made many trips tucked inside my jacket as we went to Wegmans or other stores in the area. Eventually I had to stop putting him in the jacket, he starting peeking his head out to see what was going on and grew too big to hide in there on our trips to the stores. The first trip to the vet the following week after adopting Figaro, he weighed a whopping 3/4 of a pound at 9 weeks old! Talk about small! Well, to make a long story short, Figaro at 10 months weighs 4 pounds and has been neutered and is doing very well. I don't think he will ever be as big as Jalapeno or DeNiro but he is a bundle of joy to me and makes me laugh at his antics. I'd like to tell the people at the Ontario Humane society thank you for taking these unwanted animals in and finding homes for them. And, if there was a way to post a picture of this little guy I'd post it so they could see just how well he looks and he alive and doing wonderfully!!! -Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at 19:41:15 (EDT)
